My 7th grade off-season football players doing sit-ups for St. Jude’s. They are wearing helmets and singing “All I Do is Win.” When I told them why we doing them with helmets and singing they were super excited.
This isn’t me, but today was one of those days where it all feels worth it. I got up feeling light and the scale confirmed my feelings and then when I was getting dressed for church my belt went past its normal notch, which is AWESOME. Since I was feeling good I decided to go for a run with no watch, no Garmin, no heart rate monitor, no specific route or plan. Just me and Pandora radio. My...
Rest day
turned into a 5 mile run with Pa. He was in town doing some school stuff and asked if I wanted to run, so we hit up the river trail in North Little Rock. Always enjoy time with dad.
I have had a couple of people ask me questions in the last week or so and I thought I would answer them here:
What marathon am I running? I am in week 4 of marathon training for the Sussex marathon just outside of...
My easy run turned into
pace work because it was 30 minutes until kickoff for the cotton bowl and I knew I had to get in the 4 miles the marathon guide called for. I finished in 36:02. Thankfully tv games never start on time and I was able to see kickoff. Go hogs go!
To the man letting his dog out to pee, you saved...
or at least my good pair of running tights.
Because of my stomach issues I have a VERY good sense when the urge hits me if I can hold it or if I better find a bathroom quick and in a hurry! Tonight on my long run it hit me. I stopped and thought of my options as I was a few miles from home: 1. have my wife wake up both kids and come pick me up 2. walk into the bushes in the neighborhood I...
It's been over 24 hours without the dew
Very small headache, but not as bad as the one you get when you argue with stupid people.
So my question is: what do I drink now? I have been at school all day, the students come back tomorrow, and I find myself wanting to sip on something. I have a water bottle with me, but I would like something with flavor. I can handle not having the caffeine, but what do I get when everyone goes to lunch?...
Remember all those times my brother called me a...
or said something about him being skinnier. Well, I won’t mention which one of us is skinnier right now. I will always be a tool and I am just fine with that.
Just had a great conversation
I am in the middle of my long run and I passed a bail bonds place. Christmas lights were strung up and about 10 plastic patio chairs are outside. The only thing missing was a grill with burgers. My curiosity got the best of me and I took off my headphones and said hi to the guy sitting outside. His name was James and I told him that it looked like he was having a party and expecting a lot of...

My name is Jed and I have a problem.
I have known for a while that I drink A LOT of diet drinks. Before I started Doing Life I rarely drank soda. Diet or regular, the only time I bought them was when I went out to eat. I NEVER bought them for home. I only drank milk, water, tea, and occasionally kool-aid. As I started counting my calories I started drinking diet drinks regularly. One or two a day. Then I started drinking them when...
Wife and kids are napping
so I will go run 8 cold miles. They would disagree but I am getting the better end of this deal.
Christmas break means...
staying up late and renting movies off Direct TV
getting all my runs and workouts in
watching lots of Sportscenter
taking Anderson outside to run/play everyday
dreaming/planning in my mind the next Ironman or first ultra
Ben,
I see your 4 miles and raise you to five. Next?
Helping/Supporting Other People's Journeys
One of the best things about tumblr is getting to see and read about other people’s journeys and being able to give, ask for, and receive advice. We, as a community, come from all walks of life and are all trying to achieve different things. The website/forum that Ben set up is full of people on their fitness journey that could use your advice. You may not think you are...
SarahCatherineDoesLife: Counting calories. →
scdoeslife:
So I’ve just come home from Zumba and I’m starving. I’ve got 41 calories left allotted for the day. I’m standing at the fridge trying to decide what I can have so I won’t go over. I see carrots and think that sounds good. I get the scale out to measure 3 oz. of carrots. Calorie count for carrots…
It would definitely be easier to be fat!
Learn something new every day
My main man learned a very valuable lesson tonight.
Sarah was gone to zumba class so I was in charge of Anderson and Emerson. We were sitting in the living room playing when Anderson farted a couple of times. He got this big grin on his face and I asked him if he needed to poop. “Nope” he answered, “I just pooted 3 times!” So we laughed together like fathers and sons do...
I asked Anderson what he wanted for dinner
And his answer was Oreos. I said “you have to have something else” and his reply was “salad with Oreos on top!”
Needless to say he was disappointed when I made him a turkey salad with no Oreos on top.
Negative Thinking
I don’t know if anyone else suffers from this, but here is when it hits me.
Let’s say that I have had a good day eating, but then during dinner I eat a little too much and go over my calories/points/however you keep up with it. This leads to the thought process of “well, I screwed that up, might as well have a bowl of ice cream.” This then snowballs into “might as...
